Prosecutors to consider hoax among versions of Reshetnikov's alleged kidnapping
Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco established an inquiry group to investigate the alleged abduction of Artur Reshetnikov, formerly the director of the Security and Intelligence Service and currently a candidate on the Communist Party's ticket for the November 28 elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Maria Vieru, the spokesperson of the Prosecutor General's Office, told a press briefing today that among the versions to be considered by the inquiry group will be a settling of accounts, including based on financial and property motives, as well as a hoax.
The inquiry group will consist of Centru district prosecutors and investigators from the Centru Police Commissariat.
Artur Reshetnikov has been admitted to the Emergency Hospital's neurology ward. He told reporters that he was kidnapped on Monday at about 16:00, when he was in central Chisinau. He was allegedly beaten and taken by a car to a building, where the kidnappers tortured him and tried to obtain information discrediting Vladimir Voronin. According to him, he was tied and thrown out and warned that he has several days to find out the information they asked for.
Sources within the Emergency Hospital told Info-Prim Neo that Artur Reshetnikov came to the hospital at around 01:00 in the morning, accompanied by Communist leader Vladimir Voronin and other party heavyweights, as well as a shooting crew.
At a news conference today, Communist Party spokesperson Serghei Sirbu said “the agony of Filat's regime has entered the last stage. With the Alliance for European Integration's coming to power, such practices as racketeering, organized crime, contract killing, armed robbery and other crimes have returned”.
