Prosecutors resume legal proceedings against former deputy head of GPI

The prosecutors announced that they resumed the legal proceedings against the former deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate (GPI) Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, IPN reports.

Irregularities were identified by prosecutors while examining the procedures started based on notifications submitted earlier to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anticorruption Center, including by the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Internal Protection and Anticorruption Division discovered a series of violations committed by Gheorghe Cavcaliuc in 2015, such as illegal stimulation, disciplinary penalties, advances, transfers, dismissals and leave offering without having the necessary powers and causing considerable damage to the state as a result.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office in 2015-2019 refused to take legal action against him and archived the materials. “Identifying mistakes in the previous solutions implemented by anticorruption prosecutors, the Prosecutor General’s Office ordered to recommence the investigations into these cases so as to remove the omissions, to appropriately manage the evidence for objective legal assessment and to adopt legal and substantiated solutions in each case,” the institution said in a press release.

Contacted by IPN, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc was unavailable for comment.
