Prosecutors ask for 30 days of preventive arrest for Evgenia Guțul. The request was made, but the date and time of the hearing are yet to be decided, IPN reports.

The Bashkan of Gagauzia Evgenia Guțul was arrested at the Chisinau International Airport on Tuesday evening and will be held for 72 hours in the case of fraudulent management of electoral funds, illegal financing and false statements.

She is in the custody of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC).

The governor of Gagauzia is investigated for the actions taken to finance the 2023 elections.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, Evgenia Guțul appears in the information systems on the no-fly list. Therefore, the border guards informed the competent authorities about her intention to leave the country. After the arrest, supporters of the Bashkan were gathered together in front of the NAC, despite the fact that it was late and raining. The next day, a demonstration was also staged in front of the Executive Committee of Gagauzia. Members of the “Victory” bloc in Comrat chanted with placards reading: "Freedom for Eugenia Guțul", "No to repression in Gagauzia".
