Prosecutors point to violence and bribery in schools
The Prosecutor General's Office (PG) informed the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice about a number of irregularities identified in the education process, including inadequate measures to prevent school abandonment, the large number of students in classes and bribe offering, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the PG's press service, the prosecutors established that at least 94 children were out of school at the start of October this year. Among the major factors that determine school abandonment and nonattendance are poverty, rising vulnerability of the family, alcoholism and drug addiction, the parents' indifference. The prosecutors advised the teachers to visit the students at home and organize meetings with the parents.
Violations were discovered in kindergartens as well. Under the law, the group at creche must include at most 10 children, while at the kindergarten - 15. But the number of children in groups in most of the urban preschool education institutions is higher than 25-30.
The prosecutors determined that in some of the settlements the building of the kindergarten is leased out to economic entities or for organizing different festivities.
Bribery is another major problem in the education system. Parents complain that the director asks money from them for admitting their child to the kindergarten. They also have to pay money to parent committees for remunerating the employees, the guards or for arranging the classrooms.
The prosecutors also identified cases when the teachers use violence against students as a result of conflicts.
