Prosecutors initiate proceedings in Jumbo blast case
The Moldovan Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has initiated criminal proceedings in connection with an explosion that occurred on February 14 on the fourth storey of the shopping mall Jumbo in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo learned from the PGO press service.
The PGO established that the source of the blast was a tank filled with gaseous fuel, kept and used in the kitchen of the restaurant where the explosion occurred in breach of fire safety rules and instructions from fire authorities.
The criminal proceedings are to establish the causes and the circumstances of the blast, as well as the guilty persons. Prosecutors will also have to probe whether the administration of the shopping mall and the fire authorities deserve a part of the blame for the accident.
The blast that ripped through the fourth storey of the Jumbo centre on St Valentine’s Day left twelve persons wounded, of whom eleven were taken to the hospital, including to persons who suffered burns covering 35-45% of their bodies.
