Prosecutors challenge acquittal of judge Nogai

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office appealed the April 25 decision of the Causeni District Court by which the judge of the Bender Appeals Court Nicolae Nogai was acquitted. The prosecutors accuse him of passing an illegal judgment that had serious consequences, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in order to ensure the objectivity, effectiveness and impartiality of the examination of the appeal filed by the prosecutors, Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin requested the Supreme Court of Justice to name another court of law of the same level to deal with the appeal instead of the Bender Appeals Court, where the judge worked.

In his application, the prosecutor general argues there may appear circumstances that will question the impartiality of the judges who worked with judge Nogai.

The evidence shows the judge illegally legalized a decision to sell a number of shareholdings in Moldova Agroindbank. The judge’s decision was annulled by the higher court.
