Prosecutors and officers of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) found and seized a great quantity of uranium. This was to be sold for US$210,000, IPN reports.
In a press release, the SIS says that a number of Moldovans were arrested in this case. Special investigation measures are being taken to establish the origin of the radioactive substance and other possible accomplices.
Those arrested face three to ten years behind bars for smuggling in banned substances.
The uranium can be used to make so-called dirty bombs and to extract plutonium, which can result in the radioactive contamination of the environment and living things and can have fatal effects.
