Prosecutor of the Centru Prosecutor’s Office of Chisinau Dan Coptilet was the initiator and organizer of a beating in Rascani district of the capital city, where several persons were maltreated, Sergiu Mocanu, leader of the People’s Movement “Antimafie”, said in a news conference at IPN. According to the politician, the incident happened in April. The prosecutor is not mentioned in the criminal case, while the authorities are trying to hush things up, IPN reports.

Sergiu Mocanu stated that as a result of a conflict between the prosecutor and several young people in April, Dan Coptilet decided to maltreat them. In the news conference, Mocanu presented pictures taken by video cameras set up near the place of the incident.

The pictures show a group of men beating another group in a minibus and near it. A person who wasn’t earlier involved in the conflict and who crossed the area accidentally was beaten cruelly, including by the prosecutor’s brother. The voided contains pictures that can prove that the prosecutor had been involved in organizing the altercations.

Sergiu Mocanu said the pictures were taken by the Rascani police station immediately after the incident, but, afterward, the case was taken over by the Prosecutor’s Office for the reason that it involved a prosecutor, who now is no longer mentioned in this case. The case is administered by the prosecutor of the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office Oleg Baciu, who is under the protection of the chairman of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors Iurie Garaba and the chief of the municipal Prosecutor’s Office Ion Diacov. “Dan Coptilet is protected by Garaba. It is four months since that accident, but the Prosecutor’s Office didn’t perform the required procedures to elucidate the case. The criminals are at large,” stated Sergiu Mocanu.

According to him, the victims had stayed in the hospital for a month with serious traumas. 

Lawyer Vitalie Taulean said that according to unofficial information, the victims are pressed to withdraw their complaints and are intimidated by prosecutors by another criminal case started against them for participation in the fight. The prosecutors say that the persons who took part in the beating haven’t been yet identified.
