Prosecutor of Taraclia district to stand trial

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation and sent to court the case started against the prosecutor of Taraclia district by acting prosecutor general Eduard Harunjen over abuse of power, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Prosecutor General’s Office says it was established that abusing his position, the prosecutor of Taraclia obliged the director of a state-run company to build a road section of about 400 meters in Cazaclia village, at the company’s expense, so as to ensure the access of a relative of his to the local central road. He also made the company director to supply 10 tonnes of granite gravel, building materials and other goods to him for being used for personal purposes.

It is estimated that the prosecutor caused damage of about 75,000 lei to the company. Afterward, when the company’s director asked to pay for the works and the used materials, the district Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation and started a criminal case against him.

On August 1 this year, at the request of the acting prosecutor general, the Supreme Council of Prosecutors decided to suspend the prosecutor of Taraclia from post. He is now investigated outside prison.

The prosecutor faces a fine of 50,000 to 100,000 or up to six years in jail.
