Prosecutor General’s Office refuses to take legal action against Vlad Plahotniuc

The Prosecutor General’s Office refused to take legal action against ex-MP Vlad Plahotniuc based on a denouncing statement submitted by the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) Maia Sandu.

“After two months, the Prosecutor General’s Office decided that Plahotniuc cannot and will not be held accountable for money laundering and false statements on the property owned abroad. What a surprise...”, Maia Sandu wrote in a Facebook post that is accompanied by a response letter from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office that does yet not indicate the reasons for the refusal.

“The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office provided a compete response to the request of Missis Sandu. If she decided to publish it partially, it is her decision. We have nothing else to comment on the issue,” press officer of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Anastasia Mihălceau stated for IPN.

Contacted by IPN, Maia Sandu didn’t answer the phone.

At the start of October, Maia Sandu filed a denouncing statement against the president of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc to the Prosecutor General’s Office, requesting that Plahotniuc should be held accountable for false property statements and money laundering. She made reference to a journalistic investigation according to which the former Democratic MPs didn’t declare at least four luxury villas he owns in Europe through the agency of intermediaries.
