Prosecutor General's Office must term actions of police officers involved in illegal acts, Vladimir Turcan
The chairman of the first commission for investigating the April 7, 2009 events, former Communist MP and current leader of the United Moldova Party Vladimir Turcan said he saw the videos showing the police officers beating protesters in the Great National Assembly Square only last week. In a news conference on April 6, the MPs said he saw the videos on the day they were presented by Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Vladimir Turcan, there are many videos showing the events that happened in Chisinau's central square on April 6 and 7 as there are many video cameras there. “The videos are examined by the competent bodies and the Caretaker President (Mihai Ghimpu was near Dorin Chirtoaca when he presented the pictures taken by the video cameras placed on the Government Building – e.n.) and Mayor General should not interfere in their work,” Turcan said.
The MP said the Prosecutor General's Office will hold a news conference, if it has the necessary courage, and will term the actions of the police officers involved in illegal acts.
The parliamentary investigation commission headed by Vladimir Turcanu was set up on April 24, 2009, at the suggestion of Vladimir Voronin. The parties that were then in opposition refused to delegate representatives to work on that commission. On July 21, the commission stopped work.
