Prosecutor General’s Office comments on Ivan Diacov’s resignation

The term in office of the prosecutor of Chisinau Ivan Diacov expires on December 2 and he will be named to a vacant post at the Prosecutor’s Office. The resignation tendered on November 30 will be examined by the Supreme Council of Prosecutors, which will decide if the honorable resignation can be accepted when there are disciplinary proceedings and internal inquiries underway. This is how the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) commented on Ivan Diacov’s decision to resign, IPN reports.

“It’s not the case to comment on particular cases that involve Mister Diacov. These were either the subject of internal inquiries or continue to be examined and information of public interest about them will be made known when it will be possible,” says a note released by the PGOs’ press officer Maria Vieru.

The prosecutor of Chisinau municipality Ivan Diacov said he decided to leave because narcomania and corruption subdued the Prosecutor’s Office. According to him, while in the line of duty, he repeatedly informed the prosecutor general about the acts of corruption and abuse of power committed by prosecutors and judges and demanded that these should be held accountable, but his notifications were ignored. He noted that he has the right to hold a managerial post in the prosecution service for another two years and a half, while the post of prosecutor – for how long his state of health permits, but he decided to leave this service.
