Prosecutor General might be called to report in Parliament

Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko may be summoned to appear before Parliament to explain why the cases over corruption are not dealt with, Acting President Mihai Ghimpu said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The head of state expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that no decisions were made on the criminal cases opened against persons involved in illegal privatization or appropriation of businesses. “We will give the investigation bodies time to hasten the examination of these cases so that the persons to blame are punished. If they do not do it, the legislative body will take measures,” Mihai Ghimpu said. Asked if the Liberal Party (PL) will be supported by the other components of the governing alliance if it proposes dismissing the Prosecutor General, Mihai Ghimpu said he hopes the case of the Cojocaru Commission's report will not repeat. The Commission suggested condemning the Communist regime, but the MPs have not taken a decision on the report yet. As leader of the Liberal Party, Mihai Ghimpu said that after the early legislative elections this autumn, the PL will hold the most important posts in the law enforcement bodies. “Today the PL does not have representatives in the Ministry of the Interior, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Anticorruption Center. It has only responsibility towards the people, but no mechanisms,” he said.
