Prosecutor general comments on searches at central bank

Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo said that he does not know about eventual arrests within the investigation measures carried out at the National Bank of Moldova on March 5, but he authorized the detaining and questioning of persons, IPN reports.

After the meeting of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, Alexandr Stoianoglo told the press that he gave his consent to detaining and questioning National Bank vice governors Aureliu Cincilei and Ion Sturzu, former governor Dorin Drăguțanu and ex-vice governor Emma Tăbârță. The measures at the National Bank have been planned beforehand.

“We are sure that the National Bank of Moldova is the institution that was directly involved in the wrongdoings related to the bank theft,” stated the Prosecutor General.

Asked if there is a connection between these actions and the negotiations on the formation of a parliamentary coalition, Alexandr Stoianoglo denied any political interference. “Our actions are related to the investigation of the bank fraud. For us, it does not matter who is in power. What is important is to identify those involved,” he stated.
