Prosecutor from Ceadir-Lunga to stand trial for acts of corruption

The criminal case started against a prosecutor from Ceadar-Lunga, who was arrested a month ago on suspicion of corruption, was  sent to court, IPN reports.

In a communique, the Prosecutor General’s Office says the prosecutor asked for €24,000 from three persons who were put on probation for committing a very serious crime. In exchange for this sum, the prosecutor was to give up challenging the sentence in a higher court.

The Supreme Council of Prosecutors suspended the prosecutor from his post. The 35-year-old man was placed under house arrest. He faces up to 15 years in jail and a fine of 200,000 lei. He will also be banned from holding public posts for a period of up to 15 years.
