Prosecutor and lawyer in Vlad Filat’s case contradict each other

Prosecutor Adriana Betisor, after a new hearing in the case of ex-Premier Vlad Filat, said that all the witnesses confirm the prosecution’s version. On the other hand, the politician’s lawyer Igor Popa stated that the witnesses actually incriminate themselves, with some of these even denying the prosecution’s version.

“As in the previous hearings, a large part of the questioned witnesses practically incriminated themselves by admitting that they committed particular illegalities. But the obtaining of evidence from accomplices and the guaranteeing of their immunity are against the provisions of the ECRH. For example, a former bank director said that he never verified the loans provided in doubtful conditions, while the offered money was intended for Ilan Shor,” said the lawyer.

Moreover, Igor Popa noted that these witnesses are accomplices and their questioning in the trial is nothing else but an attempt to make preplanned, but unreal accusations against Vlad Filat. According to him, there were witnesses who denied the prosecution’s accusations.

“How can a witness incriminate himself by coming and confirming circumstances that became known to him? These witnesses fully confirmed the prosecution’s version,” said prosecutor Adriana Betisor for her part.

Vlad Filat pleads not guilty. If he is found guilty of influence peddling and passive corruption, he will serve 7 to 15 years in jail.

The next hearing in the case of Vlad Filat was set for April 5, 10:30pm.
