Prosecution demands 19 years’ imprisonment for Vlad Filat

The prosecution demands that ex-Prime Minister Vlad Filat should be sentenced to 19 years in jail for passive corruption and influence peddling. The June 22 hearing on the case of the former Premier consisted of judicial debates. In a nearing at the start of next week, the defendant will be allowed to make his last statements, IPN reports.

“As state prosecutor, considering the evidence and made statements, I asked for 19 years behind bars,” prosecutor Adriana Betisor said after the hearing.

The prosecution also asked for a fine of 3,000 conventional units, ban on holding public posts for a period of five years and confiscation of the possessions obtained after the politician was ‘remunerated’ by Ilan Shor for particular services.

Vlad Filat will be able to say his last words in a hearing on June 27. Adriana Betisor said now the defendant stated nothing and continues to plead not guilty.

Vlad Filat was deprived of parliamentary immunity and arrested after politician Ilan Shor informed the Prosecutor General’s Office that he offered Filat US$250 million for particular services.
