The Government has formally disapproved of an amendment introduced by the Communist-Socialist Bloc to allow migrants permanently returning to Moldova to import tax-exempt goods, including a vehicle per family, or per person in the case of unmarried people.
Finance Minister Dumitru Budianschi said the proposed measure would stimulate the import of old and polluting vehicles, in addition to creating a 1 billion lei hole in the state budget annually if adopted.
The minister added that the Customs Code already contains provisions that allows returning Moldovans to benefit from tax exemptions for bringing in personal possessions.
