Property to the value of 1.36 billion lei belonging to fugitive MP Ilan Shor, who was sentenced to 15 years in jail, was sequestrated. In total, property worth over 7.5 billion lei, which belongs to persons who were presumably involved in the bank fraud, was sequestrated. The information was communicated by the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Veronica Dragalin in a news conference, IPN reports.

Ilan Shor’s property that was sequestered includes a part of the share capital, three aircraft, 16 nonresidential buildings, seven construction lots, 95 units of transport, bank accounts and other goods that belong directly to Ilan Shor or to other persons or companies that the prosecutors consider have ties with Ilan Shor.

Veronica Dragalin also said that representatives of the Savings Bank (Banka de Economii), which is in the process of liquidation, need to identify all the property in Moldova, which belongs to Ilan Shor, through the agency of the bailiff. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office will provide data about the already sequestrated goods if a bailiff asks for them.

The chief anticorruption prosecutor also said the fact that Ilan Shor has Israeli nationality does not necessarily mean that he will not be extradited. There are precedents, but a decision will be taken by the Israeli authorities. Israel can extradite Ilan Shor to Moldova for this to serve his sentence here or can decide that he will serve time in jail in Israel. Ilan Shor was put on the list of most wanted fugitives.

The Chisinau Appeals Court sentenced fugitive MP Ilan Shor to 15 years in prison in the billion dollar bank fraud case and banned him from holding posts in the banking system for a five-year period. It also ordered to collect 5.2 billion lei from the politician. The lawyers for the leader of the Shor Party intend to challenge the sentence in the Supreme Court of Justice.
