Propaganda can be combated by arguments, Estonian minister

In the struggle for informational dominance, one should know the opponent and find out the hidden agenda of this, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Sven Mikser, ex-minister of defense, stated in an interview for IPN.

Asked how propaganda can be combated, Sven Mikser said Estonia felt the domination of propaganda and its psychological effects long before the fight against false news and the post-truth concept became fashionable. Estonia fought the Russian propaganda at multiple levels, but the situation there was different from that in Moldova. No one in Estonia probably ever took into account the option that the Russian Federation is more attractive than the European Union.

The minister noted the struggle with the untruths is an asymmetric one, but you cannot fight lies with your own lies. Sven Mikser recommends identifying the opponents and finding out their hidden agendas. “You must show to the people that you have high moral standards and more powerful arguments,” he stated.

The Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sven Mikser paid a visit to Chisinau on February 27. Estonia finances projects to the value of about €1 million a year in Moldova.
