Promo-Lex urges MPs to designate members of CEC
Promo-Lex Association calls upon the lawmakers and Acting President Marian Lupu to include the designation of the members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) in the agenda of the legislature's extraordinary sessions, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The CEC's term in office expired during the election campaign (in November 2010), but was extended in accordance with the law. Under the Election Code, the Commission's term in office can be extended for at most 90 days. In the given case, the period ends on February 11.
Promo-Lex urges Parliament to name experienced persons on the Central Election Commission, taking into account the principle of continuity and analyzing the possibility of reconfirming the current members of the CEC.
The present members of the Commission, who were confirmed in November 2005, include Eugeniu Stirbu (president), Renata Lapti (vice president), Iurie Ciocan (secretary), Mihai Busuleac, Vasile Gafton, Nicolae Gsrbu, Victor Kotetski, Pavel Midrigan, and Valentin Vizant.
The Constitutional Court validated the results of the early parliamentary elections on December 24.
