Six long-term observers and 30 short-term observers assigned at the local level will have the duty to oversee the new local elections of November 21 on behalf of Promo-LEX Association. The observation process will cover the electoral period and the elections, including the runoff vote where this will be held, and will be conducted by a core team, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the association.

The Observation Mission will monitor the election campaign to see how the principles of the democratic electoral process and the legislative framework are obeyed. It will monitor the activity of the electoral bodies and of other relevant institutions, the performance of electoral contenders and political parties and also the election campaign funding.

On election day, the observers will monitor the opening and closing of the polls, the voting process, accessibility of polling stations, observance of the epidemiological norms and the vote count. By tradition, the Observation Mission of Promo-LEX will also perform a parallel vote count. In the period, there will be published two press releases that will incorporate observers’ conclusions concerning the conduct of elections on election day, including of the runoff vote. If need be, the monitoring results and conclusions of the Observation Mission will be presented in a report.

Starting with 2009, Promo-LEX monitored 21 elections with the assistance of over 16,000 national observers. The goal of the Observation Mission of Promo-LEX is to inform the public about the campaign and to increase citizens’ trust in the electoral process.
