Promo-Lex demands reaction from Moldovan law enforcement authorities to Corjova incidents
The human rights group Promo-Lex Association demands that the Moldovan law enforcement authorities take all the legal measures to identify and punish the persons responsible for, what it calls, the abduction of two men from Corjova village by the Transnistrian militia on March 26, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Promo-Lex said in a statement issued on Monday that the release of the mayor of Corjova, Valeriu Mitul, of the local councilor, Iurie Cotofan, and of two other workers, Ion Pascari and Ion Dubina, is yet another demonstration of the illegal and criminal character of the Tiraspol regime’s actions.
Promo-Lex reminds the Moldovan authorities that the rights of the people in the Transnistrian region are not negotiable and cannot be subject to political interpretations. Their fundamental rights and freedoms are guaranteed by the Constitution and the international acts ratified by Moldova. In this context, Promo-Lex remains concerned about the fate of Ilie Cazac and Ernest Vardanyan and of thousands of other people who are hostages to political and geopolitical games with no rules.
The association urges the international community to revise its decision to suspend the travel ban on the leaders of the unconstitutional Transnistrian regime, calling for additional penalties against them, including the freezing of foreign bank accounts and other economic measures.
Promo-Lex is outraged by the failure of the peacekeeping mission to effectively contribute to the protection of human rights in the Transnistrian region. “We believe it is necessary to insist on changing the status and format of the current peacekeeping mission, which has been turning a blind eye to the conducting of illegal military exercises, in contradiction to all national and international rules, as well as to frequent human rights violations”, reads the statement.
On March 26, two public works employees in Corjova village were arrested by the Transnistrian militia and detained for several hours for reasons which remain obscure. Earlier this month the Transnistrian militia arrested the village's mayor and a local councilmen on “hooliganism” chargers and detained them for several days.
