Promo-Lex demands punishing policemen and prosecutors who encourage domestic violence
The association Promo-Lex made an approach to the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor General’s Office, asking holding accountable several police officers and prosecutors who support domestic violence and encourage the attackers to beat the victims, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Promo-Lex makes reference to two women who are beaten by their former husbands, but the police do not intervene though there are protection ordinances. A woman in Lipnic village of Ocnita district has been frequently beaten by her former husband for 20 years. The woman sought help from the Ocnita police for numerous times, but all in vain. On June 22, Promo-Lex obtained through court an ordinance which obliges the ex-husband to leave the house where he lives together with the woman. But the police did not implement the ordinance. Police officers told representatives of Promo-Lex that the man does not have where to go and they don’t know what to do. They also said they cannot help the woman and she is not the only one subjected to violence.
Another woman beaten by her ex-husband is from Chisinau. Her complaints to the Rascani district police department remained without answer. Her former husband was taken to the police station every time he beat her. But he returned in several hours and beat her more violently. In June, the woman asked Promo-LEX to help her. On June 30, the association obtained a protection ordinance. The former husband was obliged to leave the apartment, but nothing has changed. Moreover, the police officers made the woman throw the ordinance.
Promo-Lex asks the law enforcement bodies to take steps and deal with these cases.
