The project of the National Assistance and Information Center for NGO in Moldova “Contact”, which is designed to strengthen the forces of the local public authorities, civil society and the mass media with the aim of fighting corruption at the local level, is in full swing. Within the project “Transparency and accountability of local authorities through CSO - mass media joint activities”, there will be staged training seminars for representatives of local public authorities, activists and journalists from six territorial-administrative units.
Valerian Tabarta, programs coordinator at the Center “Contact”, in a news conference at IPN said that a number of training courses for 120 representatives of the local public authorities will be organized next month. A survey of the perception of corruption in the districts of Telenesti, Calarasi, Rezina, Cimislia and Criuleni and in Balti municipality was carried out. One more survey will be conducted and a guide for implementing the anticorruption plans at the local level will be compiled afterward.
The project will be implemented until this yearend. The organizers selected dozens of representatives of local media outlets and regional NGOs to prepare a number of information campaigns on corruption fighting.
Six small grants to the value of up to €6,000 will be provided to implement projects and conduct campaigns to fight corruption at the local level. There will be staged two national contests for the best practices in monitoring and preventing corruption at the local level.
Valerian Tabarta said the project is aimed at increasing the efficiency of the fight against corruption in the public sector by developing and implementing six anticorruption plans at the local level in the six territorial-administrative units. The capacities of at least 60 representatives of NGOs and media outlets in monitoring and preventing corruption at the local level will be strengthened.
