The United States European Command contributed US$ 715,000 to the implementation of a project to improve the management of armament and munitions stores dating from the Soviet period. “The United States European Command chose Moldova as a beneficiary of this program mainly owing to the Ministry of Defense’s desideratum to cooperate and to combat this threat,” U.S. Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan stated in an event in Florești, IPN reports.

According to the U.S. diplomat, the training course in the management of munitions stores that will be held in the U.S. this summer will help train mentors for the Moldovan army so that all the munition stores in Moldova are covered.

Germany’s Ambassador in Chisinau Angela Ganninger handed over the keys to five special vehicles for transporting hazardous materials that were donated by Germany to the National Army. This donation represents a major contribution to a safer environment for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova by facilitating the transportation of munitions in conditions of maximum safety.

“The storage and secured destruction of munitions and the management of armament and munitions stores remain one of the main challenges in the Republic of Moldova. That’s why we want to protect the Moldovan citizens from eventual explosions at weapons storage places or during their transportation,” said Ambassador Angela Ganninger.

The National Army benefited from assistance from the foreign partners in improving the management of armament and munitions stores to the total value of several million euros. The money was invested in projects to renovate the munitions storage and safety infrastructure by installing video surveillance cameras, to repair the access ways and to install protection fences for security.
