The fishing ban period comes to an end on July 1. It was by two weeks longer than the previous years as this spring was cooler at the beginning and the fish started to lay eggs later. The information was communicated to IPN by the chairman of the Hunters and Fishermen Association of Moldova Oleg Ciocoi.

“The ban period is set every year depending on the temperature. The fish do not lay eggs if the water does not become warm. According to out observations, the situation is very good and better than last year,” said Oleg Ciocoi.

As to poaching, the chairman of the Hunters and Fishermen Association said the situation is alarming. “A meter of net costs 1 leu. A poacher can catch a lot of fish with a net bought for 100 lei until he is caught by the fishing inspector,” he stated.

Last year the prohibition on fishing was lifted on June 15.
