Programs of candidates for Chisinau mayoralty are generalist, NGOs

The electoral programs of the candidates for mayor general of Chisinau municipality are mainly generalist and do not reflect the gender perspective and the interests of the young people, persons with disabilities and elderly people. Such a conclusion was reached by nongovernmental organizations that analyzed the electoral programs and compiled a list of commitments that should be assumed by the future mayor. The list was sent to all the officially registered candidates.

Galina Klimov, secretary of the Alliance of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities, in a news conference at IPN said the ensuring of the accessibility of public buildings for persons with disabilities is a commitment that the candidates should assume publicly. The ambulances, taxis and public units of transport should also be adjusted to the needs of persons with disabilities.

Secretary general of the Gender Equality Platform Nina Lozinschi said the crèche services should be extended so that the women do not have to stay on leave to look after children until these reach three. Appropriate salaries and working conditions are necessary for the teaching staff and ancillary personnel of crèche services. It is also recommended extending the counseling and lodging services for victims of domestic violence.

According to Ion Petrovici, of the Platform for Active Aging, a program to extend the social services for elderly people is needed. There should be set up by a multifunctional center in each district of Chisinau and in its suburban settlements, which would provide social services, including laundry services for elderly people, persons with disabilities and with low incomes. It is also necessary to double the rehabilitation services for vulnerable persons and to increase the number of personal home care givers.

Secretary general of the National Youth Council of Moldova Igor Ciurea stated that the candidates should undertake to create a well consolidated network of services for youth, connected to the national network of youth centers.

Ana Niculaes, of the Movement of Migrant Women of Moldova, said the streets should be appropriately lit at night, especially there where offenses are often committed. The areas supervised by video surveillance cameras should be extended and patrolling should be intensified.

Alina Andronache, consultant of the Partnership for Development Center, said the commitments provide solutions to the real problems faced by the inhabitants of Chisinau. After the elections, the elected mayor will be issued one more time with the list of commitments.
