Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca approved the programme of events and festivities dedicated to the celebration of the City Day. The festivities will be directed by Tudor Colac and Victoria Cusnir. The City Day will commence with a ceremony of laying flowers to the monument of Stefan the Great and Saint. Starting at 8:00am, a liturgy will be officiated at the Nativity Cathedral. At 10:00am in the Cathedral Square congratulation speeches will be delivered by Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca and the Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, Vladimir. The opening show of the City Day will start in the Great National Assembly Square at 10:15am. Starting at 11:00am, the Poetry Day will be held in the Alley of Classic Writers, with book exhibitions and launches. Also at 11:00am, the stages distributed to every Chisinau’s district will host artistic performances, expos, sports events and competitions. Concomitantly, the Public Garden Stefan the Great will host artistic performances and the competition of young flower arrangers. At 1:00pm the Great National Assembly Square will host the Gala Concert of the International Festival of folk music that will open on October 10. The opening ceremony of the Adam Mickiewicz Library is scheduled for 2:00pm. The National Square will host the awarding ceremony of the Wine Festival starting at 5:00pm, and the pop music show from 6:00 to 11:00 pm. Fireworks will rock the square at 9:00 pm. The programme of events and festivities dedicated to the City Day includes the traditional international dance competition “Chisinau Open 2007” (October 12-14) and the conference “Spiritual Ecology”, organised by the Association of Scientists and Artists of Moldova (October 12 and 13).
