The program of activities to celebrate the National Day of Culture that is marked on January 15 will include laying of flowers, literary-musical and dramatic performances, book launches, exhibitions and contests. These will be staged in the period between January 14 and January 18, IPN reports.

On January 14, an exhibition entitled “Eminescian Values” will be opened at the National Library, while the commemorative exhibition “Dumitru Fusu” at the National Museum of Arts. On January 15, on Mihai Eminescu’s birthday, flowers will be laid at the poet’s bust on the Alley of Classical Writers in the Public Garden “Stephan the Great”. The National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History of Moldova will host a scientific conference to mark 85 years of the birth and 62 years of scientific and teaching activity of Doctor Habilitate in Biology Petru Gheorghe Tarhon, senior scientific researcher of the museum.

A drawing contest entitled “Eminescu’s poems in children’s view” will take place at the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”. There will be also held the online contest “Know the personalities of the national culture”. The National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” will present the literary-musical performance “Longing for Eminescu”, while the Theater “Luceafarul” – a play based on Mihai Eminescu’s “Luceafarul”. The National Culture Gala will take place at the Cahul Theater “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” also on January 15.  

On January 16, the Palace of the Republic will host a festive concert and the annual Award Gala of the Ministry of Culture to offer awards for the most representative works in literature, theater, music, choreography, plastic arts, cultural heritage and museography.

On January 18, the National Chamber Orchestra and the National Chamber Choir, in cooperation with the Romanian Cultural Institute Mihai Eminescu”, will present the performance “Arges Monastery” , based on works by Vasile Alecsandri, at the Organ Hall.

The National Day of Culture on January 15 was instituted by a Parliament decision in 2012, in a move to promote the national culture, authentic cultural values and artistic personalities from the field of culture. The program of activities staged on this occasion covers several days.
