Program of Romanian Language Day festivities published

The program of cultural and artistic events dedicated to the Romanian Language Day on August 31 will begin at 9:00 with a religious ceremony that will take place at the Central Cemetery on Alexei Mateevici Street. The writer and literary critic Maria Pilchin will deliver a panegyric to the poet Alexei Mateevici, author of Moldova’s “Our Language” anthem, which will be followed by a poetry recital themed “Ode to the Romanian language”.

The Chisinau City Hall will officially inaugurate festivities at 10:00 with a flower-laying at the statue to Stephen the Great.

After the official inauguration, a festive opening will follow at 10:15 on the Alley of Classics in the central park, with the participation of representatives of the Chisinau administration and the Writers’ Union of Moldova.

At 10:25, a literary-musical show titled "Shadow of a dream" will take place, featuring actor Nicolae Jelescu and the folk artists Viorel Burlacu, Maria Mocanu and Victor Buruiană.

A musical performance by the Aldea-Teodorovici Orchestra will follow at 11:15.

At 11:45, the Chisinau City Hall will award the winners of a national dictation contest.

Festivities will continue with a theatrical performance by the troupe “Arta și gândul” that will pay homage to classics of Romanian literature.  

At 15:00, the Exhibition Center “C. Brâncuși” will inaugurate the XXXI edition of the “Saloanele Moldovei” juried plastic art exhibition. The event will include an awards ceremony.

At 16:00, the Writers’ Union of Moldova will hold a Gala of Literary Awards.

In various locations throughout Chisinau, including parks and squares, a series of other cultural and artistic events will be held to celebrate the Romanian Language Day on August 31.
