Two culprits sentenced for procuring had ill-gotten gains worth over 1 million lei confiscated, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that analyzing the practice of investigating and trying cases of procuring, it reached the conclusion that the punishment of culprits without confiscating the criminal assets essentially reduces the goal of the penalty and the discouragement of perpetrators from committing new offenses.

In this case, the culprits were found guilty of organizing the prostitution of a number of girls through video chats in rented apartments in Chisinau in 2013-2015. The sums collected from clients were transferred to a virtual wallet, with the procurers making about €38,000 and over US$8,000 profit.

Prosecutors last year ensured the confiscation of criminal assets to the total value of over 48 million lei.
