Problems of young generation stem from mentality of elder ones, statement
The lack of information leads to a number of serious mistakes among the young generation, including the use of drugs, unprotected sexual relations and, as a result, sexually transmitted diseases. They derive from a mentality-related problem that appears as a result of the change of generations, UNFPA Deputy Representative Boris Galca stated for Info-Prim Neo.
According to Boris Galca, the main problems of the youth develop from identity-related problems and it is very important that they have access to information from reliable sources. The mass migration of the Moldovans leads to lack of communication in the family. In schools, there is no compulsory subject on education for health, while the optional ones are rather pointless.
“Specialists are in favor of an integrated curriculum and independent study about the education for health. We live in a society that wants to become integrated into the EU. Everyone realizes that the young people are the future of this country and all the development instruments will pass to them. We must be conscious and responsible for all the sources of information that we give to the young generation,” said Boris Galca.
He also said that there are capable and wise young people in Moldova, who are a plus value of society. Therefore, they should not remain outside the simple, but very important information about protection and a healthy lifestyle. It is important that the young people be provided with this information by such safe sources as the school.
The UNFPA Deputy Representative stated that Moldova faces a mentality-related problem caused by the change of generations. The mentality of the contemporary parents was influenced by the Soviet mentality, according to which all the orders come from above.
“Studies show that the risks are lower when the children have access to correct information. In Chisinau, where the young people have access to a lot of information, as well as distractions, sad things happen not so often as in the rural areas, where the young people do not possess such information. The archaic mentality inherited from older times, according to which the children can do without information about a healthy lifestyle, as their parents were able to live without such education, still persists. This is not right,” stated Boris Galca.
According to a UNFPA study, over 50% of the people aged between 15 and 24 are sexually active, but only half of them know how to use protection devices. Furthermore, 20% of the sexually active persons aged between 15 and 19 do not have a permanent partner. Only 38.2% of the people aged between 15 and 24 have a wide knowledge about HIV/AIDS.
