Holes and fissures appeared in the asphalt of Alecu Russo St in Chisinau only one year after it was extensively repaired. On sidewalks, the grass grows through the asphalt. These problems reveal either the poor quality of the works or the inappropriate maintenance of the road, said analysts of the Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup”, IPN reports.
Iurie Morcotylo, economic researcher of “Expert-Grup”, told a news conference that the public procurement contest to choose the contractor for repairing the road in 2012 was held with multiple violations of the procedures, while the announcement concerning the contest wasn’t published in the bulletin on public procurement or on a specialized site of the EU.
The expert said it’s not normal for holes and fissures to appear in the asphalt one year after the repair works. “Hundreds of millions of lei was spent on repairing 2 km of road, but holes and fissures appeared already,” he stated.
“Expert-Grup” researcher Tatiana Savva said the street repair works are 18 months late and the Chisinau City Hall bears a part of the blame because it didn’t appropriately organize the works.
“Expert-Grup” will also analyze other roads repaired in Chisinau so as to determine the quality of the works done there.
