Pro-rector of Agrarian University arrested for getting illicit reward
The pro-rector of the State Agrarian University from Moldova was arrested after a probe by the Chisinau Municipal Direction of the Service of Information and Security (SIS), in cooperation with the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a press release of the SIS, the pro-rector is suspected of having received an illicit reward from students of the university under the pretext of encouraging successful exams and of raising considerably the marks for the lectures he taught.
The professor rejects the charges. When being detained, he stated that the money had been put in the drawer of his desk by someone, while he was absent.
The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office has started penal proceedings upon this case, on the basis of article 330 of Penal Code 1 (“Receiving an illicit reward by a civil servant”). If found guilty, the pro-rector risks 3 years of prison, being deprived of the right to hold this office or to be involved in the educational process for a term of up to 5 years.
