PRO Movement invites like-minded organizations to ‘replace current political class’

The Civic PRO Movement believes that Moldova hasn’t been able to find its way in 28 years of independence, and experiencing “chaotic geopolitical convulsions”, the country has been governed by “reckless people that follow their own narrow interests.”

During a press conference on Tuesday, the president of PRO Movement Gheorghe Constandachi has read out an appeal addressed to civic society, diaspora and extra-parliamentary parties. The appeal states that the period of DPM’s rule has been “the darkest and most painful” in recent times; yet that “a lot of suspicious people” became MPs following the parliamentary elections of 24 February 2019. The formed coalition is also “suspicious”, as the pro-European and pro-Romanian voters are hardly represented, says the PRO Movement.

“In order to avoid a collapse of society and a return to the past,” the PRO Movement is holding a roundtable on Saturday. Discussions will focus on strengthening civil society, pro-European and unionist forces to build a common front. “It would be meant to replace the current political class, continue the European course of the country, stop the societal decay and prevent the state from being placed under Russian influence and control.”

The vice-president of the movement Alexandru Cantarjii added that, in light of the latest political developments, the question boils down to which direction Moldova should take: east or west. There is a risk that the European and the Unionist delegates will not have representation in the Moldovan government. “It is necessary to coagulate the emergence of a new force where all the representatives of these currents can be present,” said Alexandru Cantarjii.

The movement’s lawyer Igor Borfotina said that everything happening today, in politics and in the justice system, “is a struggle between the powers replacing one another.” “This needs to stop. We, the representatives of the PRO Movement, have solutions. Rather than being against just for the sake of it, we offer help, support and solutions out of this deadlock,” said Igor Borfotina.

The roundtable will be held on Saturday at 12:00, at “Gheorghe Asachi” Lyceum.
