The members of the parliamentary group Pro Moldova formulated a legislative proposal by which the interim government is offered additional powers in the fight against the pandemic and economic crisis. According to the MPs, this will enable the state to benefit from the €60 million in non-reimbursable financial assistance provided by Romania, IPN reports.
In a news conference, the leader of the parliamentary group Andrian Candu said the validity of the agreement with Romania and with other foreign donors is compromised by the outgoing government’s inability to negotiate and sign international agreements. Pro Moldova’s bill removes this ban from the law on the Government so that the country will not fail to obtain assistance because of the constitutional crisis.
Andrian Candu said the program with the International Monetary Fund, which was to start this year, envisioned, among others, the provision of about half a billion US dollars in assistance. This and other aid cannot be accessed as Moldova does not have a government with full powers.
“The law bans the outgoing government from signing agreements with financial commitments. Respectively, the amendment proposed by Pro Moldova will enable the outgoing government to negotiate and sign agreements as these documents are to be later ratified by Parliament. The Government could make use of this amendment so as to provide new solutions for immunizing the population. I hope the bill will be put on the agenda and will be supported given the uncertain situation in which we are,” stated the MP.
