Pro Moldova MPs demand to declare state of agricultural emergency

The MPs of the Pro Moldova group request to declare a state of agricultural emergency and to implement a number of measures so as to save this important sector of the economy and to ensure the country’s food security, IPN reports.

“We propose a plan of action that we think the Government can put into practice during 15 days and also came with more elaborate proposals for avoiding such a situation in the future,” the leader of Pro Moldova Andrian Candu stated in a news conference. According to him, compensations of at least 6,000 lei per hectare are needed to survive this extreme year.

According to the MPs, the Government should reassess the budget costs and should direct money for an anti-crisis fund. “We insist on the necessity of an anti-crisis fund of 2 billion lei for supporting the farmers. Also, Pro Moldova requests the Government to immediately start consultations for rescheduling or annulling farmers’ debts to lending institutions and to identify a formula for postponing the payment of taxes for this year,” said MP Vlad Cebotari.

The MPs propose working out regulations for providing subsidies during 60 days as the current regulations, according to them, are inefficient. They said the mandatory state insurance for farmers should be regulated by law and the discussions on the introduction of the common tax in agriculture should be resumed.

The proposals were included in a draft decision that is to be registered. The MPs demand to call an extraordinary siting of Parliament where to examine the situation in agriculture and to adopt the required measures.
