The Pro Moldova Party does not have the right to compete in the new mayoral elections in Tîrnova village of Dondușeni district and in Nucăreni village of Telenești district that will take place on September 6, 2020. The members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) voted to exclude it from the list of 48 parties that can do this, IPN reports.
CEC member Vasile Gafton proposed removing the party from the list as only the parties registered before the setting of the election date, which happened on June 9, can run in these elections, while Pro Moldova was registered on June 18, according to the Public Services Agency. So, Pro Moldova cannot field candidates in these elections.
CEC president Dorin Cimil said the updated list of parties provided by the Public Services Agency, 48 (47 without Pro Moldova) parties and sociopolitical movements can run in the new local elections in the two villages.
The Central Election Commission’s decision takes effect when it is adopted, is published on the CEC’s website and in the Official Gazette and can be challenged within three days of its adoption in the Chisinau City Appeals Court.
