Pro-European coalitions to be set up at local level

The leaders of the PLDM, PDM and PLR announced their decision to sign an agreement on the formation of pro-European coalitions at local level so as to ensure better organization of the government activities. In a news conference on March 12, the political leaders said the creation of pro-European coalitions at district level is an absolutely normal action aimed at eliminating any boycott by the PCRM and its acolytes from the European integration process, IPN reports.

Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat said coalitions that are different from the central one were formed in 13 districts. They represent an obstacle to implementing policies at national level. “In the recent past, we have witnessed obstructions and even sabotage in taking and implementing decisions. Moldova needs unity so that all the healthy forces join together in a common effort to make progress on the path to European integration. We will form new majorities, without the Communists, so as to have prompt decisional capacity at local level too,” he stated.

Marian Lupu, leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), said a step forward will be taken so as to strengthen the institutional capacities and decision-making in the European integration process. “We discussed over years the importance of strengthening the state power as the promotion of internal policies in Moldova depends not only on the decisions and unity of the work at central level. The efficiency of these activities equally depends on the results achieved by our colleagues from settlements,” he said.

Leader of the Liberal Reforming Party (PLR) Ion Hadarca said the signing of the agreement is an important step showing that the coalition is able to cooperate and reach compromises in different areas. “Now that we enter a very responsible phase, we must transmit a clear message to our representatives from the local bodies,” he stated.

Under the agreement, the PLDM, PDM and PLR will concertedly promote the national European integration desideratum, will eliminate any attempt to prevent its accomplishment and will achieve the objectives of the government program of the Pro-European Coalition at local level. The three parties will also support the campaign to inform the people about the benefits of the European integration with own funds and means.
