Prizes for olympiad winners

The education, youth and sport division of the Chisinau Municipality (DGETS) handed prizes to 279 students who took the first places at municipal olympiads. The students received diplomas and money during the 3rd Olympiad Winners Gala that took place at the “Ginta Latina” Lyceum in Chisinau, IPN reports.

Tatiana Mistreanu, department head at DGETS, said that event's goal was to promote gifted students and boost interest in school subjects. “These are special students, gifted and interesting. They are the best in the Chisinau Municipality”, said the department head.

Acting Deputy Minister of Justice Sabina Cerbu, a former olympiad winner and student of the “Ginta Latina” Lyceum, said that these students prove that everyone can do better and change things. “Each contest taught me how to deal with competition in life, which is much more difficult. You are a generation that can change things in this country. I bid you not to lose your ambition to improve things”, said the Deputy Minister.

The municipal olympiads took place in January-May 2014. The winners from 10th-12th grades received 700 lei each, those from 5th-9th grades received 600 lei and those from 1st-4th grades took 400 lei. The winners said that each year they strive to learn better, to participate in more contests, which help them to stand out among their classmates, become well-known and gain new experiences and friends.

According to the municipal council coordinating school olympiads, 14956 students participated in municipal school contests during the 2013-2014 school year.
