Private individuals will be able to direct 2% of income tax to NGOs

Starting with January 1, 2017, the private individuals-taxpayers that do not carry out entrepreneurial activities and do not have debts for the previous fiscal periods will be able to direct up to 2% of the income tax owed to the state budget for financing activities of NGOs, IPN reports, quoting a legislative initiative of a group of MPs that was approved by the Cabinet on April 20.

Among the beneficiaries of this type of donation are the noncommercial organizations, religious denominations and the component parts of these. The list is to be compiled annually by the Ministry of Justice and published until December 31.

The mechanism of applying the given provision and of monitoring the use of this money will be set by the Government. Similar practices exist in a number of European countries. The taxpayers in Romania and Bulgaria, for example, allocate the same percentage of the income tax for supporting noncommercial organizations.
