An ex-detainee of Soroca penitentiary was sentenced to eight years behind bars for swindle. This swindled 113,000 lei out of a woman while he was in jail and then stopped communicating with her, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to prosecutors, in 2015, being held in penitentiary No. 6 in Soroca, the man got acquainted with a woman through social networking sites. Promising he will marry her, he asked for money from the woman on different pretexts. After the woman transmitted 113,000 lei through an intermediary, the detainee stopped communicating with her. It should be noted that the man was married.

When on the outside already, the man was charged with swindle, but didn’t accept his blame. The court found the 36-year-old man guilty and sentenced him to eight years in jail. The man is to also fully restore the money to the woman.
