“On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Moldova’s Independence, IPN News Agency decided to depict the portrait of the current Republic of Moldova. For the purpose, it provoked a number of people, including state officials, politicians, businessmen, civil rights activists and persons without posts and titles, but who have what to say. The generic picture is called “Thoughts about and for Moldova”.

Dumitru Postovan, a member of the first Parliament, signatory of the Declaration of Independence: The 25 years of Independence of the Republic of Moldova are years during which much more could have been done. We could have been at another level, even alongside the Baltic States. We cannot boast of too many accomplishments – we beg and steal billions.

The ex-MP considers that if we had lived better, we could have spoken about accomplishments and would have stepped towards the civilized world. Accomplishments are when the people are free and also when they have means to exist. The current living standards are a proof of the so-called accomplishments. Half of the people able to work went to work abroad and only elderly people remained in Moldova. The villages are empty, while the homes and roads are damaged.

Even if the people are very pessimistic, there is yet hope. If the political class was changed, a goal would exist and the people would see that something is done. Dumitru Postovan said everyone must realize that only the population can and should ensure the change. “Even in the presidential elections, maximum effort should be made to get rid of those who mislead the people,” said the former MP.

According to him, the country needs the young people who studied abroad. So far the people changed one robber for another. “In 2009, new people came to power because we were tired of the previous rulers. We should penalize them more often and should not allow them to be sick with ‘itch’ (thirst for money) during 4-6 years because it is hard to treat them now,” stated Dumitru Postovan.

It would be hard for him to find a suitable answer for a child who would ask him what he should be proud of as a citizen of the Republic of Moldova. It is hard for him to explain even to his grandson why he should live in Moldova. But here are our roots, people, grandparents. If the Republic of Moldova during the 25 years of independence had been put into a bus so that it moved on, the situation would have been different now. But things have been only simulated in the period, said the signatory of the Declaration of Independence.

“We are a small country and must get along together and must not choose between the East and the West,” stated the ex-MP.
