The foreign policy continues to divide the Moldovans into two camps, shows an opinion poll commissioned by IPN News Agency to the Marketing and Polling Institute IMAS. Some 44% of the respondents consider that Moldova should come closer to the West (Europe). As many want Moldova to come closer to Russia. 12% of those polled either didn’t answer or don’t know.

IMAS director Doru Petrutsi said the percentage of respondents who are for joining the European Union is almost the same as the percentage of those who are for the entry into the Customs Union. Thus, if a referendum on Moldova joining the EU was held, 51% of those questioned would vote in favor, while 35% would vote against. If the referendum centered on the entry into the Customs Union, 49% of the respondents would vote in favor, while 32% would vote against.

If a referendum on Moldova joining NATO was held, 46% of those surveyed would vote against and only 25% would vote for.

The poll shows that 48% of the respondents are concerned that Russia could invade Moldova. 24% are concerned to a certain extent, 21% are not at all concerned, while 8% don’t know or didn’t answer.

The poll “Perspective of the active Moldovan voters before the parliamentary elections II” was carried out between November 1 and 10. The margin of sampling error is plus-minus 3.1%.
