After the Liberal and Liberal-Democratic MPs last Friday refused to support their Democratic colleagues’ initiative, in the program “Reply” the Speaker said they would vote to change the name of the official language in the Constitution, as the Liberal Party demands, but half of the Democratic parliamentary group and of society has a different opinion. Political analyst Anatol Țăranu noted the country’s interest is more important than the interparty struggle, adding the Democratic Party stands to gain in any situation – either the Constitution is amended or it is not amended. It always happens so when you each time arrange new rules that guarantee your success.

The Chisinau Arena project gathered enough criticism, but ultimately the works to build the multifunctional sports complex were started in Stăuceni commune of Chisinau municipality. The complex that will include a polyvalent hall with the capacity of over 4,000 seats, a hall for training and holding small events, an Olympic swimming pool and other facilities is to be inaugurated in 12 months.

But the people need not only bread and circuses, as the Latins said. In a news conference at IPN,
Vlad Biletski, chairman of the organization “Unirea-ODIP”, said the NGO he represents has all the resources needed to restore the Romanian Heroes Cemetery in Chisinau. “Even if Moldova is a party to a bilateral treaty with Romania that envisions the caring for, restoration and prevention of the destruction of such facilities, the country does not honor its obligations,” stated Vlad Biletski.

The councilors of the Party of Socialists on the Chisinau Municipal Council suggest that the families whose homes are not connected to the gas supply should benefit from a compensation equal to 40% of the electricity bill in winter. According to them, a sum of several million lei will be needed for the purpose in the immediate period and this money can be identified. A relevant approach was made to the municipal executive.

The inhabitants of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia will not work on October 18, when the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will pay a visit to Comrat. An order to this effect was signed by the Bashkan of Gagauzia Irina Vlah. The President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will be in Moldova on a visit during October 17 and 18. He will have meetings with President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

Without any connection to the visit that is to be paid by the Turkish official to Comrat, the Center for Sociological Investigations and Marketing CBS-AXA, in cooperation with the Institute for Public Policy, carried out a sociological study that shows the Gagauz society treats with optimism the situation created in the region. But this cannot be said about the whole country. When asked how things stand in Gagauzia, almost 51% of those polled said things in the region stand well, while 28.7% said things stand badly. Only 21.1 of the respondents consider things in Moldova go well, while 59.5% said the opposite.

Moldova won one more gold medtal at the Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games. Greco-Roman wrestler Alexandrin Guțu became youth Olympic champion. The pupil of Roman Zgardan scored three victories in the 71 kg weight class.
