The Socialist councilors on the Chisinau Municipal Council suggest that the families whose homes are not connected to the gas supply should benefit from a compensation equal to 40% of the electricity bill in winter, IPN reports.
The leader of the Socialist group Ion Ceban told a news conference that the people install gas cylinders in apartments because the costs incurred for electricity are very large. There are now over 100 apartment buildings that are not connected to the gas supply. The problem exists in the private sector and also in dorms intended for workers.
“We propose implementing the 40% mechanism for 42,000 families in winter. The compensation will cover the electric power consumption regardless of the incomes of the families living in these 112 blocks in the municipality of Chisinau,” stated Ion Ceban. “Yes, we can tell the people to give up using gas cylinders or to ban the use of these cylinders, but the measures will not work if we do not offer minimum support in his regard to them”.
According to the Socialist councilor, a sum of several million lei will be needed for the purpose in the immediate period and this money can be identified. A relevant approach was made to the municipal executive.
