Be attentive: 76% of the respondents of the Public Opinion Barometer (POB) of November 2018 consider the elections in Moldova are not free and fair. About 84% think Moldova is not ruled by the people’s will. If parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, about 60% of the respondents would definitely go to vote, while 30% would probably go to vote or will most probably not go... Precise figures about parties, courses, leaders, TV channels in the POB.

Referring to the same issues, Transparency International – Moldova executive director Lilia Carasciuc gave as example the group of interests that obtained 1/5 of the vote in elections, but in time increased its presence and now has control of Parliament. Political corruption is unprecedented and in private discussions many “political migrants” say they were forced to switch parties. This group of interests, given that it does not enjoy the people’s support, decided to replace the electoral system despite all the appraisals of civil society and the recommendations of the Venice Commission. Among other mentioned examples were the banking fraud, the Russian Laundromat, the invalidation of elections in Chisinau and the hampering of two referendums.

Within an information and awareness-raising campaign, the participants in transfrontier traffic at a number of border crossing points will receive brochures about corruption and will be informed about the risks to which they expose themselves by giving bribe.

There is an interdependence between the interests of national and local political forces, Veaceslav Craciun, opinion leader from Comrat, noted in an article entitled “Regional parties in Gagauz-Yeri: between risks and opportunities”. Usually, this can make the regional parties support the national parties in forming a parliamentary majority in exchange for the subsequent solving of issuers related to the development of local communities, starting with fiscal autonomy and ending with language-related problems. As a result, the Gagauz leaders would be ready to cooperate when the regional interests can be achieved with the help of national political and power resources.

In the program “People’s Council” on 10TV channel, Ambassador Bartłomiej Zdaniuk said “Poland is the country that buys the largest part of the wine made in the Republic of Moldova and we are yet far from saturating the Polish market”. He noted that Poland each year initiates a number of projects to support businesspeople from the Republic of Moldova, especially small entrepreneurs working in agriculture, who manage to develop their firms and to reach another production level. “If there are no conditions, attractiveness, stability and predictability, who will invest? These things should exist in the Republic of Moldova,” stated Bartłomiej Zdaniuk, adding juridical, geopolitical and financial predictability should be ensured first and foremost.

Four of the five judges investigated in the “bribery for judges” case were suspended from posts. Besides acts of corruption, the investigated judges will also be charged with interference in the administration of justice and prosecution and with the passing of illegal judgments or sentences. Criminal proceedings over such acts can be brought only with the preliminary consent of the Superior Council of Magistracy, unlike the investigation for acts of corruption.

Most of the people live yet in other circumstances were the persons with disabilities should not be regarded only as recipients of allowances. All the people are equal members of society, either they have disabilities or not, said Vitalie Meșter, executive director of the Center for Legal Assistance for Persons with Disabilities. “A lot of work is yet to be done in Moldova to ensure the observance of the rights of persons with disabilities. Things go on, but the steps are small and an acceleration is wanted,” he stated.
