Prime Minister Dorin Recean confirmed the interest of certain Hungarian companies in getting involved in potential natural gas acquisitions for the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. According to the Prime Minister, other contracts had previously been presented but were rejected by the government for various reasons, IPN reports.
"From what we know at this stage, Moldovagaz has been approached by a Hungarian company, MOL, which requested to go through the standard 'know your customer' procedure. This is a common practice within the energy community. Additionally, a standard draft contract was presented today, just before the deadline. We are not aware of further details at this stage," the Prime Minister stated.
Dorin Recean emphasized that the Government of Chisinau is not negotiating or mediating any transactions but is only verifying their legality.
"Both the Government and state institutions are obligated to verify the legality and compliance of presented contracts with national and international legislation. Previously, some contracts were submitted, but the Government of Chisinau invalidated them because they did not meet compliance standards under both national and international legislation," Recean added.
Chisinau has decided to lend natural gas to the Transnistrian region. Dorin Recean clarified that today, a loan of three million cubic meters of gas will be approved to maintain pressure in the system. According to the Prime Minister, the solution was coordinated with the European Commission and aims to immediately resolve the humanitarian crisis on the left bank of the Nistru River.
