All the measures to prevent infection with COVID-19 were taken at Saint Dumitru Church of Chisinau, assured priest Pavel Borsevschi. “We weren’t informed about the ban on holding services. We were told that we can hold services, but must take all the necessary protection measures,” the priest told IPN’s reporter by phone.
The parishioners also stayed outside, in the court’s yard, 1-2 meters from each other. Those who didn’t have protective masks were given one. The people took communion without touching the teaspoon. Those who felt ill or those who returned from abroad were asked not to touch the icons, stated Pavel Borsevschi.
According to the priest, those attending included manly people who have gone to church daily for 30 years. “If we get into a panic and separate them and isolate them immediately and without reason, we will do worse. The people who have faith in souls and believe in God will only boost their immune system,” stated the priest.
Four priests officiated at the service at Saint Dumitru Church of Chisinau today. About 80 people took communion. The service was broadcast live. On Sunday, March 15, if the weather permits, the service will be held outside.
